Science Friday

Because 6,000 years is so Dark Ages...

First, news that The Astrophysical Journal will soon publish a report on the first direct evidence of the Big Bang and the associated inflation.

Physicists announced Thursday that they now have the smoking gun that shows the universe went through extremely rapid expansion in the moments after the big bang, growing from the size of a marble to a volume larger than all of observable space in less than a trillion-trillionth of a second.
I was nine credits away from an Astronomy minor in college and I couldn't really follow everything that was going on. 'Wingers will love it.

Second, Africa is literally splitting up. Der Spiegle reports on newly developed crevices are developing along the African Rift system and will eventually separate the 'horn' of Africa. This is all happening quickly, at least in geological terms.

It's Friday and I don't have any coffee. That's all you get for a while.
