Hopeful News from Darfur

From CNN:

Sudan's strife-torn Darfur region appears to be near a peace deal to end three years of violence that has exacerbated what the United Nations calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis, officials said Friday.

The main rebel group has tentatively agreed to a peace deal with the government during talks in Abuja, Nigeria, according to a U.S. diplomat advising the talks.
This is all tentative and cease fires and peace deals aren't always iron clad, but it is, at least, a good sign.

Watching ER last night with my fiancee, I was very impressed with the directors of the show for using their popularity and influence to bring attention to the situation in Darfur. Increasingly, if the news isn't going to cover real news, it falls to other concerned individuals to do what they can to bring Darfur to the world's attention. I thought they handled it well. Informative without being preachy.

More news as it comes in.
